Field Director's Report

Need a Field Director

Repeater is running ok, was having some trouble listening for about a week.

Suggestion was made by Pancho KD0ARL that research be done to see about feasibility of

solar power to charge batteries for an emergency heat light for the repeater. He has a cost

idea - will discuss at future meeting.

District Emergency Coordinator

Was district meeting at Ham Fest in Springfield on Saturday January 16th.

New Business:

Recycle is Saturday 1/23/2010. Volunteers are needed.

Next meeting (2/16/2010) will be Storm Spotters class 7pm - 9pm. Tom KC0IBT suggested

we move the meeting to FBCKC East Campus to provide more room for attendees and

parking. Suggestion was moved, seconded and approved; Ron KC0VCL will check with

Church to make sure it is ok. Tom KC0IBT said Emergency Management will pay church for

coffee and will reimburse Paula K0ONB for soft drinks. Meeting location will be confirmed

on KARC website and talked about on 2 meters.

Christmas Party - Jim N0IZJ thanked all who made the Christmas party possible, including

Paula, Marge, Betty, Katherine and others. Paula K0ONB said there was unintentional club

subsidy of about $100.00 [Jim K0DWU reports $125.30] due to a price increase we were

not notified of. Final price was a little over $22.00 per person instead of $20.00 per person.

Price is currently $24.00 per person, but will go up again before Christmas 2010. $24.00 will

be honored if we want to have it again. Other options could be to have event at City Hall,

with snacks, installation of officers, and gift exchange. Another option would be Senior

Center, which Jim N0IZJ can secure for $100.00 not including food. We are currently

penciled in for same as 2009, but nothing firm yet. Discussion can be postponed until

March. Ron KC0VCL said that Schooner Bay could be an option if he is still there. Joe

KC0VLB proposed that his wife could cook the food with volunteer help and food donations.

Date would tentatively be 12-21-2010 - could be moved to 2nd Tuesday if the 21st is too

close to Christmas.

Tom KC0IBT mentioned upcoming CERT class running February 15th to March 22nd on

Monday evenings at East Campus of First Baptist Church. Organizational meeting of Civil

Air Patrol was held Thursday January 14th. Next meeting Thursday January 28th at Reeds

Spring School, room to be determined. Section of CAP deals with communications.

Communications will be stressed in both CERT and CAP, hopefully leading to additional

HAM radio operators.

Lloyd KD0FQG explained that CERT responds to disasters to support professional

responders. In order to be certified, 32 hour training class is required. Go to CERT website

for more info, including training modules. CERT members are now responsible for

developing organizational response and status, as well as continuing education. Stan Sharp

(guest) is also team leader. Group that has been through the training is having

organizational meeting at the lower level of Claybough Plaza on Monday February 8th at

7pm. Actual disasters are handled through Tom KC0IBT's office. Jim N0IZJ and Don NZ0A

reported than amateur radio established communication in Haiti following the earthquake.

Lloyd KD0FQG asked for more info on Boy Scouts; they will not be there for next 2 months.

Also working on programs, would like to have presentation from CAP and see how we could

work together. February's program will be storm training. Also mentioned Coast Guard

Auxiliary as possible program. Ron KC0VCL asked about CPR/First aid training - Lloyd said

would need to be separate due to several hour duration. Possibly through CERT. Lloyd

also mentioned possibly having a HAM member present on how to build an antenna.

Don NZ0A complimented those from the club who have helped Harvey WB0QKE. Harvey is

at Table Rock Healthcare room 109. He is now set up with computer and 2 meter radio. On

February 25th he will be 101. Dean K0PHI volunteered to bring Harvey to the February

breakfast.

Dean introduced the equipment for sale from Hollis Collier WB5ZAO. Equipment has been

priced, with club members receiving 30% discount. Items that don't sell may be offered on

ebay. Ron KC0VCL and Pancho KD0ARL suggested Ham fests (Colliersville or Joplin) as

possible options as well. Ron KC0VCL suggested that we keep the SWR meter and Scope

in case members need to use them. Jim N0IZJ offered Harvey's radio desk for free for

anyone interested.

Meeting Adjourned at approximately 8:00pm.
